Astronomical Storms: Beyond the Extreme

Even the most extreme weather on Earth pales in comparison to the truly astronomical storms found on worlds elsewhere in our solar system. Hurricanes, dust storms, acid rain, geysers, and volcanic eruptions on our planet are downright pathetic against the monstrous wallop of these storms. This talk presents both the causes and the effects of the worst weather known to science.

Versions

I often give the same talk several times, updating and improving the talk each time. When there are siginificant changes between versions, I will post both versions and you can choose whichever version works best for you.

JASON Action Summit - July 2006

The 2006 JASON Action Summit was held in Washington, DC on July 18-20, 2006. Its theme was "Monster Storms" with a focus on Earth Science. I presented an astronomical counterpoint, making the case that the most monstrous storms are, fortunately, elsewhere in the solar system.
